All of us have different wants and needs when it comes to our homes, but finding someone’s story that resonates with you (even just a little bit) can help you feel less alone or stuck. This is why we decided to begin a series called Client Stories. This collection of insider information on our projects and what led each client to decide on working with NKDG is meant to show you that there is an answer to your design dilemma(s). Enjoy!

Kitchen Renovation in San Diego, CA

CLIENT’S NEEDS:

Our client wanted to update their kitchen, but they were afraid to do so because they heard kitchen renovations can easily explode the budget to numbers way beyond their expectations.

They had already gotten a couple of quotes from contractors, but the contractors weren’t quite understanding their vision and our client noticed many opportunities that were missing with their final plans.

This lead them to reach out to NKDG after a family member shared some great work Nikki had done in the past in their area.

PROJECT SCOPE:

Create a bright kitchen that used up the wasted space, doubled their island size, and incorporated their favorite color: blue.

INSPIRATION:

Our clients had an inspiration photo with a blue island and had already picked out the granite they were in love with.

NKDG’S SOLUTIONS:

  • Created a floor-to-ceiling cabinetry pantry with pull out drawers to capture wasted pantry space and give them better access to their goods.
  • Tripled the size of the island. Moving the pantry allowed us to move the wall back two feet and make room for an island bigger than they could ever imagine.
  • Enlarged one of the windows facing the backyard to bring in the sunlight and give them a great view of their backyard and pool.
  • Added banquette seating to their breakfast nook to create a beautiful sunny spot for morning coffee or a quick meal.
  • Made sure all fabrics were performance style to match their lifestyle of being grandparents to 4 young children.

CLIENTS’ WORDS:

“We chose to work with Nikki because she came highly recommended through a friend and the pictures of her previous work. We enjoyed her attention to detail and knowledge of design and use of colors. No job is too small, she listens and understands that the client has ideas.”
